THE VIRGIN OF BETHLEHEM PILGRIMAGE. CABEZA DEL BUEY

The Festival of Saint Michael is the patron saint’s day which is curiously celebrated in honour of the Virgin of Bethlehem.

It begins on 27 September. On that day, every year since 1723, a pilgrimage is held in the Sanctuary, following the transfer of the image of the patron saint of the town, and the festival of Saint Michael officially begins and continues without interruption for four more days. According to tradition, the image of the Virgin remains in the town until the end of the Advent in her honour; she is then transferred to her Sanctuary on the following Sunday, where she remains until the following year.
