ORELLANA BOUTIQUE HOTEL
CONTENTS:
LOCATION
The Hotel is located on the shores of the Orellana reservoir. It has been constructed on a hill which forms part of the Cerro de la herrería hill which dominates much of this famous and popular Extremaduran reservoir. There is a tourist complex with a one mile perimeter and the beach is known as the Costa Dulce (Sweet Coast) or the milla de oro Extremadura (Extremadura golden mile).
The Hotel is very close to Orellana la Vieja and can be reached by taking the N-430 and the turnoffs for Acedera or Navalvilar de Pela from the North or through Castuera along the Ex-103 from the South.
HOTEL INFORMATION
The construction of the building, which started around 1960, has taken place in stages and with modifications, the last of these being carried out in 1992. It was in this year that the Castle Castillo de Orellana was designated as a Hotel School. Further work has been carried out on the hotel and its surrounds recently for its inclusion in the network of Boutique Hotels run by the Government of Extremadura.
Modern and comfortable facilities are divided into original modules to create a total of thirty double rooms, two of which are adapted for the disabled, and twelve single rooms. In total the hotel has room for 72 guests. Its strategic location makes it the ideal place to come into contact with the water, either to take a swim, fish, do some bird watching or take part in water sports such as sailing.

SURROUNDING AREA
The Orellana reservoir is just a few metres from the Hotel. This is a very popular location for fishermen and fans of water sports (windsurfing, sailing, and canoeing). Located in the Special Protection Area for Birds covering Orellana and the Sierra de Pela mountain range, it is part of the Special Areas of Conservation network of protected natural spaces. It retains the same limits as the Special Protection Area for Birds and is the only wetland in Extremadura which appears in the Ramsar list of internationally important wetlands. It appears alongside other such renowned areas such as Las Tablas de Daimiel, Doñana and the Delta del Ebro. The ornithological richness of the area is exceptional: between 15,000 and 20,000 specimens, including the whistler duck, common teal, shoveler duck, common crane (5,000 sleeping in the area), black storks, Egyptian vulture, royal eagle, and fish eagles.
With festivals of interest to tourists, such as the Encamisá de Navalvillar de Pela, and historical sites such as the remains of the roman town of Lacimurga located on the banks of the reservoir, this is a tourist location with something for everyone.
