This magnificent castle is private property and is to be found near Cáceres. It is open to the public and has magnificent views.
The impressive Arguijuelas de Abajo Castle lies on the Silver Way (Vía de la Plata) and has been declared a Cultural Heritage Site.
Its construction dates from the middle of the 15th to the 16th centuries by order of Don Francisco de Ovando “el Viejo” ("the Elder") together with the castle of Arguijuelas de Arriba. The walls and exterior watchtowers were added later, during the 19th century. Within the complex you will find a walled garden, terraces, a pond, an olive grove, a chapel and outhouses for livestock.
The coats of arms of the founding family can be seen throughout the castle and those on the facade are especially noteworthy.
The current owner is the Viscount of Roda who has converted the building for public use- The visitor will enjoy the impressive gardens and the charm of the place. -
