The charming town of Baños de Montemayor lies in the north of the province of Cáceres, close to the Silver Route.
Traditional architecture coexists with bourgeois architecture and ancestral homes. Its rich history and culture make it an extraordinary and different place.
If you walk along the streets of Baños de Montemayor you'll find two splendid religious buildings. The first one is the Church of Santa María de la Asunción, built between the 16th and 17th centuries and declared a historic-artistic monument in 1982. The second one is the Church of Santa Catalina. You can also discover the Roman road that used to run through the town, and a Silver Route interpretation centre.
However, the main reason to visit Baños de Montemayor is, without doubt, the spa's thermal waters, which come from two springs called Columna and Arqueta. The spa, designated a cultural heritage site, has remains of Roman thermal baths.
Another historic and cultural attraction is the milling interpretation centre, situated in the area of Las Pozas, where you can learn all about growing and milling cereal.
And you shouldn't miss the town's traditional crafts – chestnut wood is used to make housework items mainly, such as sewing baskets, kitchen baskets, lamps and pictures. -
