This natural space consists of five ancient chestnut trees on an old farm close to Arroyo del Temblar
At Segura de Toro in Caceres province there is a traditional mountain farm in an excellent state of conservation, where each tree has its own name and identity. The most important tree is known as "Hondonero", and is rooted at the lower end of the property. It is 25 metres high and estimated to be around 700 years old.
Continuing upwards a little, we come to the "Castaño del Arroyo", which is around 800 years old. A little further on we find “El Bronco”, with its unique spiral trunk, and then “El Retorcío”, with its twisted trunk, which gives it its name (the "Twisted One").
At the highest part of the farm we come to “El Menuero”. This chestnut tree is special because, as its name (the "Fine One") suggests, it is the most delicate of them all. And all because it is the furthest from the stream...
The best times to visit are in late spring, when the new leaves are budding, and in autumn when they are bearing fruit. There are many routes that include a visit to these unique trees, that have been officially catalogued as Unique Trees of Extremadura.
