The Valencia del Ventoso Castle cannot be considered as either a defence nor a military building, but rather as a fortress house.
The Valencia del Ventoso Castle was not built for defence or a military purposes. Construction of this fortress house was started in 1477 by the knight commander of the Order of Santiago, Rodrigo de Cárdenas, but was only finished a century later, in the time of Philip II.
The base of this solid palatial building is an irregular hexagon, it is built from masonry and stone with solid battlement walls to which seven cylindrical reinforcement towers are attached. At the south corner you will see several terraces on arches. -
