The castle of Hornachos is perched on a high crag which dominates the town from which it takes its name, in the province of Badajoz. This fortification was erected by the Arabs in the 11th century to demarcate the boundaries between the Muslim kingdoms of Badajoz and Toledo. Boundaries that later served to delimit the jurisdictions of the military orders of Santiago and Alcántara.
