There are many exceptional sites left by the Celts in Extremadura, and Castrejón de Capote is one of them. Here you can find remains of walls, buildings and even a shrine.
Next to Higuera la Real there is a Celtic fort ("castro"): Castrejón de Capote. Here you can see remains of houses, walls, workshops and a small shrine.
Although the first traces of humans living in this area date back to the Chalcolithic Age, the remains that can be seen in this site belong to the period between the 5th and 1st centuries BC.
This settlement has two levels. Thanks to various excavations, parts of the main street, houses and storage facilities have been unearthed. But the shrine is especially interesting, and includes an altar for sacrifices.
And if you want to discover more about the history and learn curious facts about this settlement, you can visit the site's interpretation centre. -
