The Helga de Alvear collection is the most important private collection of contemporary international art
If you're passionate about contemporary art, you simply have to visit the Helga de Alvear Foundation Visual Arts Centre, located in the historical quarter of Cáceres. And all because, according to Helga herself, contemporary art "speaks to us about our times and about ourselves". So as a fruit of this passion and since she bought her first work of art in 1967, her collection has grown and grown. So much so that this centre houses over two thousand pieces.
Francis Bacon, Miquel Barceló, Eduardo Chillida, Salvador Dalí, etc. are just some of the many artists whose works feature in this interesting collection.
The centre also has a large library containing some of Helga de Alvear's personal books on contemporary art, for consultation. Likewise, there is an option to take a guided tour and participate in the activities and workshops organised for each exhibition.
By the way, did you know that Helga de Alvear was one of the promoters of the ARCO Contemporary Art Fair in Madrid?
