It is one of the oldest and most beautiful churches in La Vera, and is well worth a visit.
One of the most important and beautiful buildings in the district of La Vera is, without doubt, the Church of Santa María de Altagracia, situated in Jaraíz de la Vera and built after 1410 on a 13th century church.
This means that it displays a combination of styles (Romanesque and late Gothic). On the ribbed vault in the apse you can see a Mudejar influence, and the main altarpiece is an example of the Churrigueresque style from the mid-18th century.
Other beautiful elements include the rose window on the west wall, and the southern doorway with capitals that look Romanesque and are adorned with lions, plant and floral motifs, etc.
When you visit the Church of Santa María de Altagracia you'll see why it has been designated a Property of Cultural Interest. -
