The Castillo del Coso, a fortress built in the 12th and 13th centuries, stands in Higuera de Vargas.
This 13th century fortification was donated to the Knights Templar by Alfonso IX, which is why it is known as the Templar Castle of El Coso. It stands in the centre of the village of Higuera de Vargas in the province of Badajoz.
From the outside one can see the stone construction with thick walls and a square layout. Access is via the broad doorways. Two tall, octagonal towers with battlements can also be seen on a visit to this castle.
