This Festivity of Tourist Interest in Extremadura brings thousands of people together in Mayor de Trujillo square.
The town of Trujillo in Caceres tops its Holy Week celebrations by re-living every Easter Sunday one of the most important events for its people, the Chiviri.
Declared to be a Festivity of Tourist Interest in Extremadura, this fiesta which harks back to ancient times, began its modern version in the 19th century spring festival, when the change of season was celebrated. It is a time when people take to the streets and get together around the Plaza Mayor to celebrate the end of the winter.
The Chiviri recalls the essence of that old tradition. Indeed, its highpoint is when people begin to gather together around Trujillo's Plaza Mayor dressed in typical shepherd's clothing to party and enjoy a big fiesta.
Dances, local produce tasting accompanied by a good Extremadura wine and the old, popular songs, some of which were especially composed for the fiesta, all form part of a day of co-existence that brings together thousands of people in Trujillo to enjoy a fiesta that has been declared a Festivity of Tourist Interest in Extremadura.
