The stages are set up at Recinto Hípico, just outside the city of Cáceres; the venue also includes a camping area, a market and other services for the public.
Although it was first held in 1998, Extremúsika was discontinued until 2004-2009, and, after an absence of five years, it was held again from 2014. As well as in Cáceres, it has been held in Mérida (2009) and Trujillo (2015). Its duration has ranged from one to four days, and has been held in April, May, June or October depending on the year.
Despite all these changes and challenges, Extremúsika has been capable of making a name for itself in the Spanish scene in the last few years. Some of the artists that have performed there are Dover, Ska-P, Marea, Fito & Fitipaldis, Los Suaves, M Clan, Loquillo, Kiko Veneno, Celtas Cortos, Sínkope, Rosendo, Porretas, Def con Dos, The Prodigy and Los Niños de los Ojos Rojos, among others.
The festival sets up a camping area within the Recinto Hípico, very close to the stages, that includes all services needed for a comfortable stay.
