  • Declared a Site of Historic and Artistic Interest.

Feria is waiting to welcome you in the south of Badajoz, in the Zafra-Río Bodión region on the southern slopes of the Sierra Vieja mountains. This picturesque town is dominated by its 15 th century castle, which you spot before you arrive. The castle has views over the incredible local landscape, and houses a visitors' centre on the town's history.

Feria has been the home to Celts, Romans and Arabs over the ages. Its name comes from when the land was given to Gomes Suárez de Figueroa, master of the Order of Santiago, with the title Duke of Feria; a title that survives to the present.

The town centre is focused around the town hall and the 15th century San Bartolomé church. Get ready for a work out when you go for a stroll around Feria, the town is full of steep slopes. But it is well worth a visit to explore the traditional buildings and its unique layout, which resembles an open hand.

The Casa del Monje dolmen -of which the chamber, built of seven slate slabs, and the corridor remain- is to be found in the Sierra del Molino hills close to the castle.

If you visit Extremadura in May, it is worth visiting this beautiful town to admire its history and to take part in the Santa Cruz fiesta, which has been declared of tourist interest in Extremadura.

And don't miss the opportunity to try some the delicious local delicacies, with specialities in high quality cured meats, agricultural products and game.
