Although it may go unnoticed at first glance, the coat of arms that adorns the fountain known as El Chorro, located in the municipality of Gata in Cáceres province, holds a historical surprise.
In the municipality of Gata in Cáceres province, you will discover the fountain called "El Chorro", which is located opposite the left side of the parish church. This side has a granite ashlar frontal and the coat of arms of King Charles I. The most striking thing about this blazon is that it faces left, meaning the person in whose honour the coat of arms is made is a bastard son, which is extremely surprising.
Even though there is no documentary evidence, it is thought that the mason who executed this work, created in one whole piece, may have been a converted Jew who wished to take revenge for the expulsion of his people from the region in this way.
