The river árrago marks the western boundary of the Hurdes SPA, which covers over 26,000 hectares and has been declared a Site of Community Interest. With the mountains of Las Hurdes as a backdrop, this natural enclave receives the waters of the rivers Hurdano, Esperabán, Los ángeles and Tralgas.

If you are a birdwatching enthusiast, you will enjoy observing a wide variety of species, such as cinereous vultures, Eurasian sparrowhawks, short-toed snake eagles, great eagle owls and black storks. Although you can see these birds in other parts of Extremadura, it is here that these species have found the perfect place for breeding and raising their young in natural surroundings dominated by a rich diversity of habitats: heaths, oak and chestnut forests and pine groves.
