Fuente de Cantos welcomes thousands of visitors to taste its delicious lamb traditional dish.
Fuente de Cantos celebrates a food and drink festival in April that satiates the most demanding local and visitor appetites alike with its stew dishes. The fact is that the main course of the Chanfaina Festival is a "chanfaina" cooking competition, which sees this traditional local lamb dish take centre stage.
Declared a Festivity of Tourist Interest in Extremadura, the Chanfaina opens with the shepherd-clad children of Fuente de Cantos handing over the lamb to the “Master of Ceremonies”, who will be the oldest of the chefs present. He or she then passes the lamb around to the other participating chefs who season it symbolically and then return it to the pot ready for cooking. This marks the starting signal for the food and drink competition, the traditional stew dishes from which will be accompanied by the best local wines.
