  • Thanks to the large amount of prehistoric remains that can be found in this municipality in the province of Badajoz, it is the perfect destination for those who love to unravel the mysteries of the past.

The municipality of Magacela is in the province of Badajoz, specifically in the district of La Serena. Magacela's origins date back to prehistoric times – for example, there is a dolmen on the plain, dating from 3,000 BC, and splendid and well-preserved cave paintings on the face of some rock shelters in the mountains. There is a stele that dates from the late Bronze Age, called the stele of Magacela. Today it is kept in the National Archaeological Museum, but there is a replica in the municipality.

Magacela's artistic wealth is undeniable. The town was designated a cultural heritage site in 1994 because of the large amount of old buildings that can be found in the urban area.

But Magacela has much more to offer: it also celebrates the Los Santitos festival, which remembers the martyrdom of Aquila and Priscilla; and the festival that takes place in the Plaza del Pilar square in honour of the town's emigrants. On Sunday during the festival the town council serves "caldereta", a typical stew from Extremadura, for everyone.
