  • Just like in a bee-hive, the cells of this prison hold the essence of the main historic moments of the city of Coria

An old Coria prison – built in 1686 and preserving its cells just as they were designed – houses the Royal Prison Museum. This museum has a permanent exhibition located on the ground floor with an important archaeological collection with pieces from the history of Coria from prehistoric to medieval times. Its collections of Roman epigraphy, a Roman marble sculpture, prehistoric tools, stelae, verracos and, of course, the Coria Municipal Charter are all items of interest that you shouldn't miss on your visit.

Upstairs at the Royal Prison Museum is used for temporary exhibitions throughout the year. The subject matter is very varied but it is worth taking a look as exhibitions are occasionally on local cultural events or holidays, such as the famous San Juan holiday.
