This avant-garde building places the north of Extremadura on the international MICE tourism map.
A futuristic design building, the Plasencia Convention and Exhibition Centre opened on 22nd June 2017, thus increasing the business tourism-related offer in Extremadura. Designed by the architects José Selgas Rubio and Lucía Cano Pinto (who also designed the Manuel Rojas Convention Centre in Badajoz) , it is a multi-purpose building, its uses including, for example, congresses, auditorium, theatre and opera performances.
With a total built area of 11,388 m2, it has a main auditorium with 800-1,000 seats; located above the auditorium is a multi-purpose room with a seating capacity of 300, which may be separated into three rooms with a seating capacity of 100 each; a 1,000 m2 exhibition area; and on the upper level another 300 m2 area for catering purposes. Access to the building, which looks like a ship moored at a granite pier, is along an orange walkway that leads into a large space or entrance.
White, light green, silver and orange are the colours distinguishing this Centre designed as a windowed balcony over the city and the horizon of the Plasencia sea of rocks.
