  • The popular devotion that characterises a Week of Passion declared a Festivity of National Tourist Interest

One of the most beautiful, historical and artistic sites in Extremadura forms the backdrop to these Holy Week processions in Jerez de los Caballeros. Popular devotion and emotion are duly aroused by the magnificent processions that take place in Jerez de los Caballeros among locals and visitors alike. The majority of these processions pass through the unique streets of this town, witness of a Templar past and home to a historical and artistic heritage, which have seen them declared to be of National Tourist Interest.

Holy Week in Jerez de los Caballeros begins on Psalm Sunday with the "Borriquita" (statue of Christ on the donkey) procession, which is accompanied by the legion. As of this moment, the Week of Passion begins, which will no doubt see events of unquestionable beauty such as the procession of the ”Empalaos” on Holy Monday, the taking out and returning, in procession, of the Easter statues from the chapels and churches that house them throughout the year around the narrow streets of the town.

Holy Thursday, early Good Friday morning and Easter Sunday are the undoubtedly the most intense moments of the Jerez de los Caballeros Holy Week.
