  • It is a beautiful religious Roman building, very well preserved, that is part of Mérida's archaeological ensemble.

It is, without doubt, one of the most majestic and colossal Roman buildings in Mérida. It was part of the municipal forum in the ancient Emerita Augusta. It is one of the few religious Roman monuments that has been preserved in such good condition.

Despite its name, this temple was used for imperial cult and was built in the late 1st century BC. It has a rectangular floor plan with a base, is surrounded by columns and has a hexastyle on the front. The fluted columns have Corinthian capitals and are made out of granite. Los Corbos Palace was built using its structure in the 16th century.
