  • This is a military fortress from the 15th century which was rebuilt as a palace in the 16th century. It is in the municipality of Orellana la Vieja.

The remains of the residential palace of the Altamirano family reveal what were its beginnings as a 15th century military fortress.

Most noteworthy was the courtyard building, consisting of two galleries supported by columns, round arches and rectilinear lintels on the main floor.

At present two towers still stand, one circular and the other square and higher, the keep. You will also see the Altamirano coat of arms, arches, supports with Ionic capitals and the remains of turrets. However, part of the castle was destroyed to convert it into a private dwelling after the Civil War.

It has been declared a historical and cultural heritage site in Extremadura and in the town it is known simply as "the palace".
