Located in the province of Cáceres, Trujillo Castle was built over an old Moslem fortress of which a number of remains have been preserved.
Trujillo Castle was built between the 9th and 12th centuries and stands at the highest point of this town in Cáceres from which it takes its name. It was raised over the remains of an old Moslem citadel, from which two water cisterns have been preserved.
The rest of the castle, as you will be able to see for yourself, is built of blocks of dressed granite with seventeen square defence towers around it, two of which protect the entrance gate which has a horseshoe arch.
During your visit you will see that this fortress is divided into two clearly distinguishable parts: the parade ground and the bailey. You will also see that four of the seven gates have been preserved: those of San Andrés, Santiago, Coria and the Gate of Triumph. -
