One of the most important sites of the whole of the region of La Serena in terms of size and state of conservation.
A few kilometres from the centre of Quintana de la Serena lies the Hijovejo archaeological site, a fortified enclosure of Roman origin, which clearly had military functions. It is one of the oldest and best-preserved of all of the archaeological sites in the district of La Serena. It is also considered one of the most representative sites on the Iberian peninsula, comprised of a building with an irregular layout and two rooms, and a courtyard.
