    The aquatic birds of the Complejo Los Arenales SPA are deemed to be of international importance. This attractive feature enables you to explore the three pools that comprise this wetland in more depth, and remember you can also practise water sports here.

    Enjoy the unique natural setting afforded by the three pools that make up the lagoon complex located west of the city of Cáceres, and which also form the Complejo Los Arenales Special Protection Area for Birds. The calm waters of these lagoons have fostered a tiny habitat which is the perfect place for aquatic birds to gather in. It is considered of international importance according to the criteria of the Ramsar convention.

    Because this area can boast a wide variety of birds, outstandingly the Eurasian spoonbill (Platalea leucorodia) and the cattle egret (Bubulcus ibis). And this wetland region is also home to reptiles like the Mediterranean turtle (Mauremys leprosa).
