  • The area boasts a wide variety of habitats, providing a home for the abundant local wildlife.

This protected area encompasses the Alange reservoir and a series of small mountain ranges such as Sierra de San Serván, Sierra de Peñas Blancas, Sierra de La Oliva and Sierra de La Garza, jointly known as the Sierras Centrales (Central Ranges).

The diverse habitats include steep rugged slopes that provide ideal nesting sites for birds of prey such as golden eagles, griffon vultures and Bonelli's eagles. The nearby reservoir attracts many species, especially in the summer, and is home the large flocks of water birds.

You can also find five kinds of fish, two types of mammals (otters and greater horseshoe bats) and two species of reptiles (European pond turtles and Mediterranean pond terrapins).
