Sierras De Peñalsordo Y Capilla Special Protection Area (SPA) for Birds

The protected area's namesake mountains encompass Sierra del Palenque, Sierra del Torozo and Sierra de Las Cabras, which stand in the east of Badajoz province, very close to Ciudad Real. These small mountain ranges tower high above the landscape, forming a sea of tranquillity that is virtually unspoilt by roads, save the odd country lane.

This peaceful setting attracts many species, especially in the breeding season, who find the perfect habitat among the oak trees, holm oaks, junipers, pine tree plantations, rocky areas and typical Mediterranean scrubland. The surrounding plains also provide ideal hunting and feeding grounds for the wildlife.
