Seducing palates

The capital of Cáceres, the flagship of Extremaduran gastronomic excellence, as well as the benchmark for the most discerning palates thanks to its extensive natural resources, was designated the Gastronomy Capital of Spain in 2015.

Cáceres is both welcoming and surprising, not only for having the third monumental ensemble of Europe, but also for being the ideal scenario for a gastronomic adventure through Extremadura’s culinary excellence. Recipes inherited from the Roman, Arab and Jewish culinary traditions, along with traditional Spanish cuisine, mean that Cáceres cuisine is real fusion cuisine. So, in the city you can enjoy the more traditional Extremaduran cuisine alongside more avant-garde proposals, at nationally and internationally acclaimed restaurants.

Extremadura produces a wide range of quality products to make tasty and mouth-watering dishes: Ibérico ham, cheese, paprika, cherries, olive oil, veal, lamb, and wine. Therefore it is no surprise that Extremadura boasts 8 Protected Designations of Origin and 2 Protected Geographical Indications.

But not only is Cáceres gastronomy for tasting; it is also for experiencing through traditions, as Cáceres and its surrounding towns play host to famous fine food-related routes and festivals, such as the Cherry Tree in Blossom Festival, declared of National Tourist Interest, the Trujillo National Cheese Fair, and the Jamón Ibérico Dehesa de Extremadura or Vino Ribera del Guadiana ham and wine routes.

A world of experiences and sensations that will delight the visitor to Cáceres, designated the Gastronomy Capital of Spain in 2015 by the Spanish Catering Federation (FEHR) and the Spanish Federation of Tourism Journalists and Writers (FEPET).
