Monfragüe – a place to discover

Let yourself be bewitched by the beauty of the Monfragüe National Park – a unique place where the flight of the Griffin and Monk Vultures decorate the sky.

The Monfragüe National Park is established as one of the greatest representatives of Mediterranean forest as amongst its flora there is an abundance of cork trees and holly oaks, so representative of the region.

If you want to get to know this park, we suggest that you go to Villarreral de San Carlos, where you'll find the visitor centre. There you'll find information on the trails you can do with your family. Just beside it is the nature centre, targeted especially at children from five years of age. Your children will have a ball as they'll learn first-hand about the forest, the trees that make it up, the animals that live in the park and the birds that soar through the Monfragüe sky. You may see vultures – one of the park's most iconic species.

This experience will help your children to learn how to value their environment and the importance of natural spaces on the planet.

The trails you can do in the park are countless but the ones that are recommended for doing with children are:

  • Fuente del Francés - Monfragüe Castle
  • From Villarreal de San Carlos to La Fuente de los Tres Caños.

But if your children are too small, don't despair because you can do the same trails by car, stopping at the prettiest places in the National Park and enjoying the nature of the surroundings.
