Nature and sports go hand in hand in Extremadura

Enjoy beautiful scenery whilst practising your favourite sport in a region that will reward you for your efforts.

Nature is fundamental throughout Extremadura. Smattered from north to south and east to west with forests of chestnut trees, oaks and holm-oaks, the Monfragüe National Park, the Villuercas-Ibores-Jara Geopark, the Cornalvo Natural Park and the International Tagus Natural Park offer an excellent setting for practising sports in the open air. If you like enjoying nature and sports, you are in the right place.

One of the options we propose are the hiking routes. In the Jerte Valley you can enjoy the Garganta de los Infiernos, 17 km of signposted trail accompanied by the river Jerte, where the natural pools and the sound of the water will captivate you. Also in the Jerte Valley is the Ruta de la Otoñada, or Autumn Route, ideal for walking with the whole family. A circular route running for 20 km from Navaconcejo on which we can span the Carril de Olmos, cross bridges and delight in the Calderón waterfall. Definitely a perfect plan for enjoying nature with the whole family. But these are not the only routes: the Monfragüe Natural Park and the Villuercas-Ibores-Jara Geopark offer a large number and diversity of routes for more demanding visitors, such as the Alta Ruta de Hervás , 33 km. rising up over 2,000 m. in the Ambroz Valley, in in the province of Cáceres. And you should not forget the emblematic Carlos V Route, either.

Don't leave your bike at home, bring it along as there are many cycling trails you can enjoy, too. In Valencia de Alcántara (Cáceres) there is a wide variety of trails for mountain bikes encompassing all the levels. There are some extremely beautiful routes in the Ambroz Valley, as well - delightful places with forests of chestnut trees and waterfalls to make your walk magical. There are numerous routes around the García Sola reservoir, both on the plains and in the mountains, and just a short distance away is the surprising area of La Villuercas or Los Ibores, as well as sections of the Vía Verde ('Green Way') you can walk along with your children.

As you can see, you can take part in many activities inExtremadura. Hiking, cycling or just going for a walk in the mountains can be something unique that it will take you a long time to forget.
