Around 300 types of cheese - from Extremadura, Spain and abroad - are presented every year in this magical city.
If you like cheese, you can't miss this date in Trujillo (Cáceres) year in May, where over a hundred thousand people come drawn by the aroma of this delicacy.
At the Trujillo National Cheese Festival you can discover the best cheeses in the world, including those of Extremadura, DOP Torta del Casar, Queso de la Serena, Queso Ibores and Queso de Acehúche. It is the cheesemakers themselves who show off their varieties, which are made using traditional methods and for the most part handcrafted.
But don't think for a minute that people come to this festival just to look. In the Plaza Mayor, workshops are organised for all ages, as well as tasting sessions and demonstrations… and to top it all, many of Trujillo's restaurants prepare special dishes using cheese as a main ingredient over the days of the festival.
Meanwhile, to accompany the festival and cheese tasting, the council prepares a cultural programme to complement all the other festival activities.
